Blogger and Blogspot Do Not Exist for me Anymore

Blogspam -- fake blogs -- at Blogger and Blogspot has grown so rampant that one is reminded of kudzu.

From now on, Desirable Roasted Coffee will not link to blogs on free platforms.

Update: My ire was stoked when, after doing a Technorati search on a serious topic, I was directed to 3 blogs, all on Blogger, and all spam. As Lee and Stephen point out, refusing to link to Blogger blogs might be an overly-draconian measure. My point, of course, is that Blogger is becoming to blogs what Hotmail became years ago to email: the refuge of spammers.

Naturally, I am not going to delink the friends and colleagues who have Blogger blogs, but I am going to counsel them to move out of the slums. And, of course, I will link to Blogger blogs when there's reason to do so. But I will be seeing far fewer Blogger blogs, as I see no reason not to ignore them in search results

Allan Jenkins has had it with fake and spam blogs hosted on Blogger and other free blog platforms. He soon updated his post that his original outburst was somewhat emotionally driven by spam-filled results from a Technorati search. Hey I... [Read More]

Does that mean me, then?

I guess it does -- sniff...

And I am very flattered to notice that I'm in your 'fourth cup of coffee' list... does that mean you're going to remove me?

[double sniff of sadness]

Allan:

My platform is free -- b2evolution running on Apache and Linux.

I understand what you are saying; sort of like blocking mail from Hotmail and that ilk.

Lee, no, I am not going to remove you. Though Blogger is becoming such a disreputable address, that you might want to consider a move.

By the way, it's soon going to be a much shorter blogroll.

Stephen, your point illustrates my error nicely. I don't actually mean all free platforms.... just those who facilitate junk.

Thanks for the email.

I've posted my thoughts on this: http://bettercomms.blogspot.com/2005/06/is-blogspot-bad-neighbourhood-to-be.html

I hate doing searches and finding spam blogs so infuriating, but why ban blogger, a lot of my favourites are on free platforms. Instead, I don't link to anon. blogs.

Allan, I love my Blogger account and won't be leaving it - mainly because I like the platform, and I have been there for 2 years as of July 2.

I hope that you will continue to read what I write, and if you want, you link. If you don't, that's good.

Now, you going to be at the IABC Conference??

Posted by: Jeremy Pepper | Jun 9, 2005 6:19:21 AM

No, Jeremy, I sure won't be deleting you. I overstated the case, but as I have amended it, I would be reluctant to search through Blogger blogs looking for new reading material.

If one came recommended from my "influencers", or I somehow stumbled onto it, great. Linked.

But one could spend all day trolling through link farms.
