September 18, 2006Special podcast from the Stibo Graphic Forum
Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of talking about social media at the annual Stibo Forum held by Stibo Graphic for its many customers. Never missing a chance to show off their command of the medium, Lee Hopkins and I recorded Chat #18 of the Better Desirable Roasted Communication Café podcast directly from the Forum. And we were joined by special guest star Donna Papacosta! In this chat, you'll hear Lee, Donna, and Allan talk about how cheap & easy podcasting is, and move on to discuss why we bother to use social media. Is it masochism? Or does it have real implications for our businesses? We cite, among other cases, Whirlpool's American Family podcast, GM Fastlane Blog, the Southwest Airlines blog, and SecondLife. I apologize for the sometimes-iffy sound quality. Technorati Tags: stibo graphic, stibo forum, lee hopkins, allan

In today's chat, Allan reports on IABC's European Leadership Institute & the use of social media in IABC Europe. Lee likes the first chapter of Jeremy Wright's book: why businesses need to get their heads around social media. And why you should be worried if you are not being talked about in the blogosphere. Lee muses "Is this the beginning of the social media shakeout? We are starting to see Web 2.0 businesses fail." Allan and Lee discuss the demise of PubSub. And then we discuss blogging and politics -- politicians who blog, and bloggers who cover politicians. We also have a good laugh at Jupiter Research's expense, thanks to the hard work of Toby Bloomberg and Fard Johnmar. And we make the obligatory mention of Robert Scoble. In short, Chat#10 is more than just a coffee break -- it's a free ranging buffet with lots of good stuff under the heat lamps. What do you think? Agree with us? Disagree? Drop your comments on this post, or send a Waxmail to ‘comments at commscafe dot com’. Download [12mb] and take an 26 minute coffee break with Lee and Allan. And don’t forget to subscribe to the RSS feed to catch every sparkling discussion as we pass the coffee pot around. And if you are an iTunes user, you can find our podcast on the iTunes Music Store (for free, of course!). Technorati Tags: IABC, European Leadership Institute, Jeremy

Lee Hopkins, current occupier of the Futon of Antipodean Communication here at Desirable Roasted Coffee, gathered himself sufficiently this week to put up a website for our semi-weekly podcast: Let us quickly dispense with the FAQ: 1) No, we don't know her. 2) Enjoy!
